This is a card introduction column featuring WIXOSS producer Tomo and Card Design Lead Shota. This time, we'll be picking up the hottest cards from "P02 CHANGING DIVA", which is scheduled to be released on March 18, and have them talk about them from the perspectives of world view and game design.
Tomo Yamaguchi.
He works for TOMY and is the creator of WIXOSS.
He is in charge of the world view and character settings.
Shota Yasooka is in charge of game rule design and Card Design Lead for WIXOSS.
He is also a top-notch Magic: The Gathering player and has experience in a variety of card games.
Let’s begin the "WIXOSS CARD SHOW CASE"! I am the Goddness of WIXOSS, and I will be your moderator. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
It started so abruptly.
I've been called out of the blue, what's this? Oh, Shota, it's been a while.
It's been a while.
Well, this article started because we wanted to let everyone who enjoys WIXOSS English Edition know more about WIXOSS. Thank you for your time today.
It's been quite a while since I designed this set, so I doubt I'll remember all the details.
To be honest, I'm not too sure about that either.
Yes, the first of the DIVA series, INTERLUDE DIVA, was released last November, and on March 18, the third booster, CHANGING DIVA, will finally be released!
CHANGING DIVA is the set in which Akino appears.
That's right! In CHANGING DIVA, Akino, LOVIT, Bang, and Madoka will be the new Center LRIGs!
So we'd like to talk to you both about these four new Center LRIGs, their SR SIGNIs, and some of the PIECEs you should be looking out for!
Now we'd like to ask you about the new Center LRIGs, " Akino Bound for Valor".
To begin with, what kind of character is Akino in the team?
Akino has the best knowledge of cards in the team, so she has the ability to judge the battlefield based on that.
She is very studious.
What is reflected in the ability of the card?
To start with, the cost of Ultimate Skill, which each LRIG has and can only be used once per game, is the same for each team. and that part of the ability represents the team's characteristics and "musicality".
In the case of No Limit, "Down two upped level two LRIG" is common, and it's an image of "three people working together to cause something". Well, the actual effects are more in line with the color roles of the LRIGs rather than Akino's personality.
Indeed, in WIXOSS, "Bounce" (returning an opponent's SIGNI to their hand) is the role of white, isn't it?
I think that's right. "+2000 during opponent's turn" is also a common effect in white.
Let's take a look at the " Madoka, Vogue 3" of DIAGRAM.
As Shota said earlier, each team in DIVA has its own musical characteristics.
And since DIAGRAM is a dance team characterized by active movements, I gave Shota the image that not only has center person but also the other two members moving around intensely.
That's right.
In fact, Ultimate skill of this team is the same in both cost and effect, but it is an ability that moves not only the Center LRIG but also an Assist LRIG card.
The ability is the same, but you can choose what to do depending on which LRIG you put into the center, so I think of it as a "Ability to choose the Center LRIG that matches the main deck”. I hope you guys enjoy building a lot of different decks.
We have the impression that DIAGRAM is more for advanced players than other teams.
How do you feel about that?
Yes. Especially in terms of colors, I think DIAGRAM tends to be a deck that uses all three colors more than other teams. I don't think there's much difference in the ability of the LRIGs themselves, but I still think it is for advanced players because they need to build the main deck with SIGNI cards that have synergy with the LRIG deck and need to play well in order to succeed.
Next " DJ LOVIT - 3rd Verse " is Card Jockey.
Card Jockey, as the name suggests, is a team inspired by DJ.
So, I asked Shota to make the board look like a turntable and do something like scratching as DJ does.
Yes, by repeatedly up and down three LRIGs, LOVIT's two action abilities enable you to feel like a DJ! Then Let’s send cards on the opponent’s Ener Zone to the trash.
The last one is " Bang, Read to Fight ", Uchu no Hajimari.
First of all, <Uchu No Hajimari> is a band team, and the three of them are in charge of each part, but I think each of them has a solo part and a moment when they come forward. I told Shota that I wanted to create an image of "a moment when they get people’s attention." Each of the three has their own moment of excitement.
As for "Bang" in particular, as you can see from the name, it has the image of "Big Bang", so I asked Shota to give us a strong and amazing design that would remind us of the past *"Midoriko".
* This LRIG was included in WX-01 Served Selector released in 2014. It was first a Japanese edition booster pack, And Midoriko appeared in WIXOSS anime first season as important character.
▲Big Bang, a card from WX-01 Served Selector, released in April 2014.
You pay 12 Ener costs to use the effect, and it puts all cards from that opponent’s Ener Zone and SIGNIs on opponent’s field into their trash.
Yes, basically, you can increase Ener and handle [Lancer] by taking care of the role of the “green” color. Uchu no Hajimari is designed to show its true potential by growing everyone to their maximum level,
so please aim for that.
However, Bang, or Uchu no Hajimari, has a unique and elusive image that is still quite shrouded in mystery.
“Uchu" itself has doubts about the WIXOSS LAND, the stage of this work, in other words, this team trying to get closer to the mastermind. They believe they can get closer to the truth by winning the DIVA BATTLE and rising in their ranks.
It is a hidden backstory.
The comics version touches on that part too! But just a little bit.
▲"Originally not a part of WIXOSS, but with the rise of the DIVA BATTLE, “PIECE” arose.
▲"Why is the bond between three LRIGs capable of great power?”
▲”Mystery surrounds us, but that power is essential to us, our true purpose is…”

Thank you very much. From here, we'd like to take a look at SIGNI as well.
Let's take a look at one of each color.
I'm not really involved in character design for SIGNI. This Yaekiri is an exception.
She is based on a character I drew when I was in charge of a strategy article for another card game.
In terms of abilities characteristics, it's “Harmony” ability.
Harmony ability is basically a constraint ability, but it's a little stronger than the others.
The key to this ability is that you can't put two SIGNIs with “Harmony” ability into your field.
Basically, a team will have three colors, so If you try to put more than one SIGNI with the "Harmony" ability on the field, the second and subsequent SIGNI must be downed when it enter the field, and there is a disadvantage that one of them must be downed if you put two SIGNIs into the filed at once. It's strong, but there's a pattern if you put the SIGNI with “Harmony” ability too many in your deck, you will have trouble playing the game, so be careful. I also think it would be interesting to use a good combination of colors, since this ability will appear after this set.
Thank you. “Harmony” is a keyword ability that is new this CHANGING DIVA set. If you don't make down a LRIG as specified, your LRIG with “Harmony ability” itself will down. Basically, it has an effect that triggers when you attack, so it's assumed that you meet the conditions.
Well, that's how it is. I guess I don't have any comments on the effects.
Next is Red SIGNI Daji, Crimson Evil Queem
This SIGNI has an ability that symbolizes red, doing something by crashing your Life Cloth.
In WIXOSS, it's red's role to actively crash your Life Cloth, right?
Yes, sometimes black does it, too. One of the characteristics of red in WIXOSS is that it can deal damage to yourself or directly to the opponent.
Unlike Life Cloth crash, "damage" is very powerful because it can kill your opponent. It's a privilege of red.
It leads to winning the game. The "damage" effect is very strong.
Now, next is blue "Amabie, Azure Angel Queen”.
The motif of this character is called "AMABIE", which in Japanese legend is said to have the power to cure plague. I adopted it as a motif to ward off bad luck.
This is a SIGNI featuring the Angel Class. You'll need to build the deck with Angel Class as the main, but I think if you build your deck mainly with Angel Class, it becomes a powerful Angel Class support card as an advantage.
There are a lot of cards that refer to Angel Class in this set CHANGING DIVA, right?
In the DIVA series, we want to be able to build decks based on Class, and I think we'll be able to build decks based on Classes other than Angel Class, so please look forward to it.
It's green. This is my first time see SIGNI with “Plant” Class.
If you're lucky, Gouche Agnese comes to your field in succession, and since DIVA Selection (Official tournament format name in Japan) is basically a game environment with few means to defend against an opponent's attack, the return which can stably prevent attacks from opponents is huge when you play well. Of course, there is a risk of losing your ener, so if you like risk-reward, this is the game for you. Also, I think another point is that Life Burst is strong.
Finally, there is black. It has a slightly different Harmony ability condition than the others and an attack effect that destroys the opponent's deck.
We made this one has a slightly different cost of "Harmony" ability than the others. You can't put two SIGNIs into the filed together no matter how you try. The reason for this is that deck destruction effects have a huge impact on the game; DIVA Selection is a game environment where life management is very delicate, and one point can often be the difference between victory and defeat.
Under this environment, Deck Destruction, which can cause Refresh Damage*, is very powerful.
DIVA Selection has strong Life Burst as a whole, so being able to put one of your opponent's Life Cloths into the trash while avoiding the risk of Life Burst has a huge impact on the game, I think.
*When the main deck becomes zero during the game, you Shuffle the cards in your trash, and then make them your Main Deck. Then, if you have Life Cloth, put one into the trash.
This is the last part: CHANGING DIVA contains 6 different PIECE cards.
Let's take a look at the three cards in order.
This scene actually appears in the anime. In the anime, Hirana and the rest of No Limit build an Angel deck and use it. The illustration and effect of the card were made before anime broadcast, but I thought it would be perfect for the anime, so I had it added to the anime script.
It is used as a trump card in the anime
I like this card’s illustration.
We used it as a "Memorial Board" when we got over 1000 followers on the English official Facebook. Thanks a lot for the many "👍".
Oh yeah, good for you. As for the ability, I think it's pretty strong even though it can only be used in Angel decks. It is a powerful ability because you can "put target SIGNI on opponent's field into the trash" and "draw two cards.", I think it can be used in almost any Angel deck.
The second PIECE is here, a PIECE that has an effect to protect the SIGNI that represents the characteristics of green and white respectively.
This PIECE is one of the few defensive PIECEs in the whole game that has many offensive effects.
It can protect your SIGNI from trigger effect when your opponent's SIGNI attacks and it can disrupt your opponent's strategy.
Last one is "Zeno Cluster". What's cracked and what's going on here?
I think this ball is like the globe of WIXOSS LAND.
And the top rankers of the DIVA BATTLE held in WIXOSS LAND are searching for the existence of the rumored "Master Piece". The "Master Piece" apparently has the power to affect the real world, and this collapse is an image of a phenomenon caused by the use of that power.
However, it's not clear whether or not this actually happened.
Incidentally, the three members of "Uchu no Hajimari" are studying the power hidden in this Master Piece.
They invite "Bang", an AI that exists only in WIXOSS LAND, to the real world and they are chasing the mystery of this Master Piece in order to hold a Tea Party together.
It's adorable that the ultimate goal is a tea party for the three of them. How are their abilities?
It's a so-called Cards designed to counter certain virtual decks.
It becomes a very powerful card when your opponent plays a lot of cards that make you discard your own cards or put your cards on your Ener Zone into trash.
If there are a lot of strong players in your local tournament who often use decks similar to those described above, this is a good choice. As for the PIECEs, I think the fun part is to read each other and see how you can catch your opponent off guard, or how you can get away with it, so have fun with that.
Thank you very much, that's all.
There are a lot of cards that we didn't get a chance to mention this time, but we'd like to continue doing so in the future, so please look forward to the next article!
